Our Foundation

​

The Knights of Rizal – New Jersey Chapter is part of the global Knights of Rizal, a civic, patriotic, and non-sectarian organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the life, works, and ideals of José Rizal.

Originally organized in 1911 and granted a legislative charter in 1951 under Republic Act No. 646, the Order exists to ensure that the legacy of José Rizal remains active, studied, and applied in every generation.

Our New Jersey Chapter carries this responsibility locally — through education, leadership, and civic engagement within the Filipino-American community.

Our Inspiration: José Rizal

​

José Rizal (1861–1896) was a physician, scholar, novelist, and reform advocate whose writings helped awaken Filipino national consciousness during Spanish colonial rule. Through his novels Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo, Rizal exposed injustice and called for reform grounded in education, moral integrity, and civic participation.

He believed that societies progress when citizens are informed, disciplined, and morally responsible.

His life and martyrdom continue to inspire leadership rooted in knowledge and service.

The Knights of Rizal exists to ensure that these ideals are not merely remembered — but lived.

The Knights of Rizal – New Jersey Chapter serves one of the most dynamic Filipino-American communities in the United States.

With a strong presence connected to Jersey City and outreach across the state, our chapter is committed to:

• Promoting historical awareness of José Rizal
• Hosting annual Rizal Day commemorations (December 30)
• Encouraging educational discussion of Rizal’s works
• Supporting cultural preservation initiatives
• Strengthening Filipino identity in the diaspora
• Mentoring future leaders within our community
• Expanding civic engagement among Filipino-Americans

Jersey City, as a major cultural hub for Filipinos in the region, plays an important role in our outreach and programming. Through participation in heritage celebrations and community events, we continue to strengthen our presence and visibility.
